Welcome to the Special Populations Programs (SPP) website!  The SPP consists of a wide array of community-based programs offered through the Department of Exercise and Sport Science within the College of Science and Health on the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse campus.  Since it’s inception over 30 years ago, the SPP has established itself as a vital partnership between UWL and the Coulee Region.

The predominant mission of the UWL SPP is to conduct a variety of quality physical activity/education programs serving children and youth encompassing a wide array of disabilities from the Coulee Region.  Modified instruction in specific physical activities is provided to participants that may not be available in the general community.

The SPP also serves as an interdisciplinary professional preparation site for preservice teaching majors from physical education and other disciplinary academic areas.  The SPP encourages and pursues linkages between program staff personnel and other professional personnel/constituencies to illustrate the importance of collaborative efforts necessary to improve the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective states of children and youth with disabilities.
