Karen Palmer McLean received her B.S. in physical therapy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976. She received her M.S. in Adult Fitness/Cardiac Rehabilitation from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1985 and her Ph.D. in exercise science from Arizona State in 1992.

Dean McLean serves on the Governor’s Select Committee on Healthcare Workforce Issues and oversees the College’s interest in the Health Science Center. She has been appointed by the Chancellor to serve on the La Crosse Medical Health Science Consortium Phase III work group Population Health Initiative. She is a member of the UW System Inclusivity Initiative Steering Committee and serves on the UW-L Campus Climate Committee. She co-chaired the UW-L sub-committee responsible for writing the Engagement and Service section of the UW-L North Central Accreditation Self Study, in preparation for the April 2006 site visit. As UW-La Crosse prepares to host the 2009 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), she will serve as the institution’s representative on the NCUR Board of Directors.
