Networking, Accessing Nippon (Japan) Information - Therapeutic Recreation

The purpose of NANI-TR:
This web site is designed to promote therapeutic recreation in Japan.  This site was initially developed because of some issues and concerns students from Japan (who are studying therapeutic recreation in the United States) have had related to promoting therapeutic recreation in Japan.  The students felt there was a need to communicate with professionals in Japan and the web and the Blackboard program could serve as an excellent forum for this. This site provides a opportunity to share, discuss, interact and communicate trends and issues as well as resources and information specific to therapeutic recreation in Japan.

How communication will take place:
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Therapeutic Recreation Program will host web discussions for participants through a program called "Blackboard".  At the present time, the "Blackboard" program is only in English, and hopefully this will still allow a free flow of communication by all parties involved in this effort.  In addition, if there is a need to use the Japanese language to express oneself, participants are encouraged to send an e-mail that supports the Japanese langage to everyone.  If this occurs, Ms. Sayaka Sonobe has agreed to translate the information into English and forward it ((via e-mail) to the English only speaking participants.

The first survey sent to those interested in this project, included the following topic areas as possible discussion topic areas for the "Blackboard": Current Trends in TR in Japan, Activity ideas, facilitation techniques, TR populations, Assessments, Documentation, TR Career Opportunities in Japan, Continuing Education Opportunities in Japan, Promoting TR in Japan, Resources related to TR, and Study abroad opportunities in TR.

The current discussion forum is should there be an effort in Japan to set up an international affiliation with the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA), the National Therapeutic Recreation Society (NTRS), or any other group?  To join this Blackboard discussion forum, please click here.
