Recreation Management Internships
An internship is required for Recreation Management majors and is designed to be a culminating experience in which students put into practice what they have learned. REC 450 (REC 450 Internship Course Syllabus) undergraduate internship (16 credits) is 16 weeks with a minimum of 40 hours per week. REC 700 graduate internship is 6 credits for a minimum number of 420 hours, working either part-time or full-time. The time frame for the internship begins one week before courses begin and ends 16 weeks after. The internship should encompass all of the following areas:
- Marketing
- Personnel Management
- Facility Operation
- Programming
- Financial Management
Interns will receive a letter grade for their internship experience. They are responsible for the following throughout the internship:
- Written biweekly reports
- Major project outline
- Major project
- Final site evaluation
Additionally, the student is responsible for the internship site supervisor submitting the following:
Interns within a 250-mile radius of La Crosse will receive a visit from his or her faculty advisor. Students outside the 250-mile radius will communicate with the advisor by telephone and other electronic means.
