Why Attend?

The 2009 Conference (2nd Annual) is an excellent opportunity to explore new markets and understand the where the bioproduct market is headed. Don’t be left behind. Position your company to expand into new products and markets with bioplastic and biocomposites.

The plastic and composite industry currently plays a vital role in our economic engine in the Midwest. Plastics and composites help increase fuel efficiency for automobiles and are fast becoming a replacement for steel.

However, petrochemicals are the heart of plastics and composites. Biocomposites by contrast reduce cost both in terms of dollars and carbon emission.  It is important that we look to alternative feedstock for the products we produce, use, and dispose of every day.

We aim to focus on sustainable feedstock’s that can help level our dependence on foreign oil while keeping dollars local.

There is a real market for products that utilize sustainable feedstock, and we want to position Wisconsin to be ahead of the curve when it comes to products produced with non-edible feedstock.

Come share your experience and hear from national and international speakers.

What are bioplastics and biocomposites?

Like all plastics, bioplastics are composed of a polymer combined with plasticizers and additives, and processed using extrusion or thermosetting.

True bioplastic has a renewable and sustainable feedstock (to some extent). They can be produced to biodegrade or have properties just as traditional plastic.

A biocomposite is a material formed by a mixture of natural fibers (usually derived from plants or cellulose) and traditional or biodegradable plastics. Biocomposites are characterized by the fact that the petrochemical resin is replaced by natural fiber.

Biocomposites can compete with traditional plastic in many applications.
