The Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC),
chapter 256, was established as a University of Wisconsin - La Crosse
student organization in 2001. Much like the national organization, SCEC
began with fewer than 15 interested individuals. With the help of the
internet SCEC now has over 55 UW-L students who have expressed interest
in receiving the SCEC meeting minutes/updates via e-mail. Each semester SCEC members negotiate meeting times and goals to best meet the needs and interests of its members. SCEC members pride themselves in participating in community outreach projects while remaining active in campus-wide disability-related events and social gatherings. The Student Council for Exceptional Children is a great student organization of choice for those UW-L students who are concerned about the educational opportunities for people who have disablities. We hope that all preservice teachers are concerned about the well-being of students who have disabilities; but admittedly, most SCEC members have special education as their minor. |
