It is well known that sexual assault is an underreported crime. UWL is mandated by UW System to annually report sexual assaults that occur on campus and in the near proximity. The numbers are generally low and believed to be inaccurate due to the low report rate. Even those that are reported to staff on campus (not University police) are often not reported to the Office of Student Life, the unit on campus responsible for reporting to System.
