Fall 2008 Student Teachers and Interns

REQUIRED Hepatitis B Immunization and Tuberculosis (TB) Test
Friday, August 1, 2008, ENFORCED DEADLINE

  • According to Wisconsin state law, you must have official medical records on file in the Office of Field Experience that prove you have had or started the Hepatitis B immunization and that you received a negative tuberculosis test within 90 days of beginning your student teaching/internship. You may have your TB test between June 7-July 30, 2008.
  • Your student teaching placements will be cancelled if the Office of Field Experience has not received your official medical records by August 1, 2008. If this occurs, you will not be allowed to student teach until the following semester.
  • The Hepatitis B immunization is a once-only series of three injections over a 16 to 26 week period. At the UW-L Student Health Center, full-time students can get each injection for approximately $25. The cost is $45 at the County Health Department, and more if given by a physician or nurse.
  • You may have your TB test done at the UW-L Health Center (call 785-8558 for an appointment), the County Health Department, or by your physician.

REQUIRED Student Teaching/Internship Orientation Meeting
Friday, August 15, 2008, 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in Valhalla B, Cartwright Center.

  • Registration is from 8:30-9:00 a.m. in Port O’ Call; Cartwright Center.
  • The meeting will detail and explain student teaching evaluation forms, policies and procedures, and other important items. Student teacher and interns will meet with their University supervisor after the general orientation session.
  • With the exception of ECE, SPE, SHE, and PE student teachers, student teacher and interns will meet with their University supervisor after the general orientation session.
  • ECE, SPE, SHE, PE, APE will hold additional student teaching orientation meetings
    after 12:00 p.m.  Please check with your program area for the time and location of your respective meeting.

REQUIRED Teacher Employment Seminar for all December 2008 Graduates
Monday, October 27, 2008, 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Valhalla, Cartwright Center

  • Dress in professional attire
  • The meeting will provide information on interviewing, certification/licensure, graduate
    school, and successful job search strategies.
  • Early Childhood and Special Education practicum student teachers not graduating this semester, and working teachers completing add-on certification, do not need to attend.

Friday, December 12, 2008, 12:15-3:15 p.m., Valhalla, Cartwright Center
