Assessment System Process

Formal assessments are conducted at admission into all teacher education programs and during each semester of the professional sequence. Each course and field experience will specify links to the UW-La Crosse Teacher Education Standards in its syllabi. The Professional Developmental Portfolio is one of many measurement tools used by the School of Education. For each course-related standard, knowledge, skills and disposition indicators are identified as the parameters of expected student performance. Candidates submit reflective statements with artifacts identified by instructors for inclusion in the portfolio that provide evidence of learning. The evidence is supported with information on the context, justification and reflection of learning. Course instructors evaluate the standards-based artifact using a two-point rubric (sufficient/insufficient). Please see below for further details regarding the Assessment Review timeline for your program.

The Teacher Education faculty firmly believes that a Professional Developmental Portfolio is a reflective process, and therefore encourages an environment of mentoring, reflecting and goal-setting through a portfolio mentoring system. Please see below for further details regarding the mentoring system for your program.
