Portfolio Requirements

Stained Glass Image of a Saint ReadingGraduate students pursuing licensure in reading must submit a professional reading portfolio at three points across their programs: at admission to program, when nearing completion of the Wisconsin 316 license (approximately 18 credits), and when nearing completion of the Wisconsin 17 license (30-36 credits). The director of the reading program serves as an advisor/mentor for graduate students as they develop their portfolios.

All portfolios are based on the Standards for Reading Professionals. In addition, those pursuing the 17 license will provide evidence that documents their competencies under the administrator standards under PI 34 of the Wisconsin teacher licensing rules.  Graduate students must select artifacts that address each of the points under the five IRA standards and/or the seven administrator standards, and write reflective statements for each. See the Graduate Reading Program Handbook, Section C:  The Professional Reading Portfolio. For the complete set of administrator standards, including the related KSDs (knowledge, skills, and dispositions for each standard), see http://dpi.wi.gov/tepdl/pdf/kdpa.pdf

Graduate students may choose to submit an electronic portfolio. See the guidelines and templates for the Graduate Reading Portfolio.
