SmartBoard Summer
Institute Tuesday, June 21, Wednesday, June 22, and Thursday, June 23 |
Institute:
A three-day Institute to be held at UW-L this summer to help School of
Education Faculty/Staff determine appropriate uses for
SmartBoard Interactive Whiteboard technology to help support
student learning and academic success. The Institute will focus
on best practices, examples of what is currently happening in
the K-12 schools, and include hands-on activities for
integration into teaching practices. The institute will include
(day 1) Level I SmartBoard Interactive Whiteboard Training, (day
2) work day to develop interactive lessons using SmartBoard
technology, and (day 3) collaboration and activities designed to
improve items created in the first two days, and discussion
about how curriculum changes might happen to include SmartBoard
technologies into more education classes systematically.
Dates: Tuesday June 21, Wednesday June 22, and Thursday June 23.
Time: 8:30-4:30 (lunch noon-1pm, on your own)
Location: 102 Wing Technology Center
Presenter: Claudia Felske, a SMART Board Certified Trainer, has served as
the District SMART Board Trainer and SMART Board User Group
Coordinator for East Troy Community Schools since 2005. She is a
National Board Certified Language Arts Teacher and English
Department Chair at East Troy High School. Felske is a College
Board Advanced Placement Reader and has authored professional
publications including articles for College Board and English
Journal. She received a Kohl Fellowship in 2010 and was selected
as the Wisconsin High School Teacher of the Year in 2011.
She has a B.A. in Writing Intensive English from Marquette
University and an M.A. in Creative Writing from the University
of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
User Groups: Those attending the Institute will have the chance to continue conversations and collaboration through User Group gatherings. Two sessions will be offered in the summer (one in July, one in August) to ensure preparedness for Fall courses, one session will be offered in October as a Fall check-in opportunity, an interactive session offered in January 2012, and one session will be offered in March 2012 as a Spring check-in opportunity. Focus will be on showcasing how School of Education faculty and staff are using the technology in their classroom along with sharing tips and tricks they have learned while continuing to use the technology. Facilitators and exact dates/times TBA (based on participant availability).
NOTE: By registering for this Institute you are agreeing to the
following --
- Attend all three days of the Institute held Tuesday, June 21, Wednesday, June 22, and Thursday, June 23 from 8:30am-4:30pm. Lunch will be on your own.
- Attend one User Group meeting in July, one User Group meeting in August, and one User Group meeting in October. Dates will be based on
availability of those registered for the Institute and determined as soon as possible.
- Commit to making assignment and/or curriculum changes to include SmartBoard technology into your Fall 2011 course(s). NOTE: Part
of the Institute will include time and information to help you strategically think about and actively build portions of your
course(s) to implement these changes.
- A willingness to participate (as necessary) in future School of Education training events about the SmartBoard technology.
