Welcome to Safety on Our Sidewalks

S.O.S.

Interested in Volunteering?

SOS is run by our generous volunteers.  We couldn't provide this service without them.  If you would like to get involved with SOS, here's what you need to know about volunteering:

  • Volunteers usually work one week night EVERY OTHER week from 8:30 p.m -12:00 a.m.  We also ask that you volunteer either ONE Friday or Saturday night A SEMESTER.

  • Volunteering is easy and fun.  It's something you can put on your resume and you can do homework when you are not on a walk.  We work around your busy schedules as well.

  • Volunteers are always part of a team (either two women or one man and one woman) when on duty, so talk to a friend and volunteer together.

  • If you want to join the volunteer team or would like more information, stop by the Office of Student Life in room 149 of Graff Main Hall, or call 785-8065.  Applications are available at the Office of Student Life or click on the link below.

  • SOS volunteers are expected to act in a manner that reflects the interest of the SOS program, on and off duty.  All volunteers must have an application on file in order to perform safe walks.  Volunteers have a great responsibility to the UW-L community; they are trusted with the safety of our students and maintaining their anonymity.
