Welcome
This web page is intended for UW System instructors who received Lesson Study Training Grants to do lesson study in 2007. Lesson Study Training Grants are intended to support lesson study work during the year. Teams are expected to 1) participate in lesson study training, 2) conduct a lesson study in which their team designs, teaches, observes, evaluates, revises and reports on their work,
3) complete a mid-year survey and 4) document their lesson study in a final report. Read
2007 Lesson Study Training Grant Activities
for more information.
Participants do Option A or Option B.
A. Attend a Training Workshop. The workshop introduces you to the basic principles and practices of lesson study, and examines how you can use lesson study to improve your own teaching and also contribute to knowledge about teaching in your field. The workshops were held in January 2007 (Archived Workshop Description).
B. Complete an Online Training Module. If you cannot attend one of the training workshops, you can complete a training module that orients you to lesson study practices. After providing background on lesson study, this training module offers strategies and opportunities to help you avoid potential pitfalls and get more from the lesson study process. Start Module.
Instructors complete a Mid-Year Survey after your team has done its first iteration of lesson study (i.e., after you have designed, taught, observed and revised the lesson for the first time). The survey provides information about your initial lesson study experiences. We will use the feedback to improve project training materials and practices. Link to Mid-Year Survey
The Lesson Study Final Report is not a traditional grant report. Instead it is a scholarly work in which you document both the lesson you developed and your study of the lesson. There is a specific format for the report and you will post it online, adding to a growing collection of college lesson studies. Read Instructions for Submitting Your Final Report.
Writing and Submitting Your Final Lesson Study Report. This module reviews the purpose, contents and format of the Final Report. Learn how to prepare and submit the Final Report using KEEP Toolkit and start composing your report. Start the Final Report Module.
The Lesson Study Project website and the College Lesson Study Blog contain articles, tools, an online lesson study guide, examples of completed lesson studies, and more. If you are unfamiliar with lesson study you might take 20 minutes to read our brief introduction or review the Online Guide. You may be interested in a recent podcast interview we recorded with Catherine Lewis, noted expert on Japanese lesson study. Look ahead to the final product of a lesson study, review online samples.
Funding for the CLSP comes from the UWS Office of Professional & Instructional Development (OPID). In 2007 the following campuses provided additional funds to support their lesson study teams: UW Stout, UW Milwaukee, UW Whitewater, UW Green Bay and UW-La Crosse.
