Hannah Means Memorial Collegiate National Qualifier
On Saturday, February 17th the University of La Crosse will play host to an
Olympic Weightlifting competition. The Hannah Means Memorial Collegiate Meet
will be held in the Mitchell Hall field house at 1725 State Street, with the
first competitor starting at 10am. The event is sponsored by the Weightlifting,
Powerlifting, Bodybuilding Club (WPBC) and the UW-L Strength and Conditioning
Concentration. This is an open meet to all athletes registered with USA
Weightlifting; registration can be completed at day of the meet. All workers
will be volunteers and all proceeds will go to the suicide hotline.
Hannah Means was a talented weightlifter from Northfield MN, who committed
suicide in 2005. Meet director and fiend of Hannah, Cori Safe, have begun this
meet as a memorial to Hannah, as well as a fundraiser for the Suicide Hotline.
The hotline is under funded and is in constant need of financial support. There
is no admission fee to the meet, but donations will be accepted at the door.
Weightlifting is a sport
where competitors attempt to lift heavy weights mounted on steel bars, the
execution of which is a combination of power and technique. The two lifts will
be the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk, with all rules of the International
Weightlifting Federation in effect. Weigh in start at eight am and competition
to follow at ten. Entry forms are $15 and can be downloaded at the WPBC web
site, and must be postmarked by February 7th.
For more information contact Cori Safe, Meet Director at 651-380-8798 or email
