About the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Student Association

Established 1975

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse had its first established student governance organization in 1916. The first student governance organization consisted of a faculty approved six student council and was constructed during the middle of World War I. This council served as the primary student governance body until 1943 when the Campus Controls Council of 20 elected full-time students replaced it. This Council then diminished and the Student Coordinating Committee was formed in 1970. Finally, in 1975 our current Student Association began and still runs strong today. Now, the UW-L Student Association represents almost 10,000 UW-L students that are studying here in La Crosse as well as all over the world.

The UW-L Student Association has established a tremendous reputation of civic engagement within the local community and especially at the state level.  UW-L students carry a heavy presence within the UW-System as well as lobbying in the State Capitol.  A delegation is always sent to Washington D.C. as well to establish relationships and lobby on behalf of UW-L and higher education.  The students here at La Crosse are truly the beating pulse of our program's success and we are proud of each and every accomplishment.

The Student Association consists of three branches; the Legislative (Student Senate), Executive and Judicial Branches. Each branch has it's own goals, objectives and expectations within the Student Association organization. These groups work cohesively to provide the best experience for all students on campus.
