Social Justice Director

Dewayne Wrencher

-Major: Business Management and a Minor in Art
-Year in school: 2nd Year
-Why you came to UWL: I came to the UW-L only after I realized I had a network of friends or a community that will help me deal with the challenges of attending a predominantly white University as a Person of Color. The fact that UW-La Crosse is a great school came after I knew I had the latter.
-Other groups you are involved with: I have been apart of many groups on this campus such as: BSU, ALANA, MUASA, SFT, etc.
-What you hope to accomplish this year: I hope to accomplish a UNITY within the many Diversity Organizations and use my skills in art, facilitating, and caring for education to teach this campus the importance of unity within the University. The United Against Hate Campaign and Boxes and Walls event are just the start.

The Social Justice Director will be charged with raising awareness and promoting social equality throughout campus. The Social Justice Director will work to promote an environment on the UW-L campus that is understanding and accepting of diversity. This shall be done by carrying out campaigns that involve and educate the entire campus of the social injustices that affect us as a university. It shall be the duty of the Social Justice Director to:

1. Carry out campus wide campaigns promoting social awareness,
2. Promote legislation towards diversifying our campus,
3. Serve on the Joint Minority Affairs Committee,
4. Serve on Campus Climate Council and the Hate Response Team,
5. Serve as the facilitator for the Diversity Organization Coalition (DOC),
6. Complete additional responsibilities that seem fitting and necessary and proper for the position.
