Academic Initiative Oversight Committee (AIOC)

Referendum Information

Background

The Academic Initiative (AI) program was approved by the UW Board of Regents and created in 2003-2004 after a campus wide task force selected the four cornerstones of the program to be advising, research, internationalization, and diversity. The program currently costs $30 per semester and when it began the University matched every student dollar for dollar. However, this match no longer exists and the cost to continue the program will have to increase. Because AI is a differential tuition, it is required to be assessed and presented to the UW Board of Regents for reauthorization this year.
