Student Association Vice-President

Karly Wallace

The Vice-President holds a unique role as she is the President of the Student Senate.  She is the chair of all Senate meetings and appoints Senators to their respective committees.  The Vice-President works very closely with the President of Student Association in order to be sure that all initiatives set forth by the Senate and student body are fulfilled.  The Vice-President meets weekly with Directors from all over campus and bi-weekly with the Chancellor, Provost, and Vice-Chancellors.  Also, the Vice-President is active in the recruitment and retention efforts for quality students to fill student government roles.  She conducts a bi-annual training session that develops Senator’s leadership qualities and encourages professional development both outside and within the Senate Chambers.

Karly Wallace is the 2009-2010 Student Association Vice-President. Karly is currently a junior with a major in Community Health Education and a minor in Business Administration. She is originally from Waukesha, Wisconsin and intends to graduate from UW-L with her Bachelor’s degree in May 2011. After completing her undergraduate degree, Karly would like to attend graduate school and pursue a career in Healthcare Administration.

Karly first became involved with Student Association during her freshman year as a Freshman Senator. The following year she was elected as a Science and Health Senator. During her years as a senator, Karly served on numerous committees, including the Legislative Affairs Committee where she, as Chair, and the other committee members worked hard to amend the Student Association Constitution and Student Senate Bylaws.

During her time at UW-L, Karly has other been involved with many other aspects of campus. She has been involved with Student Alumni Ambassadors and Eta Sigma Gamma, a Community Health Education honorary for the past two years. Karly has also worked as an Office Assistant for Chartwells and a GCA Lab Consultant for ITS.

Karly has taken a specific interest in the UW-System and has attended numerous Board of Regents meetings during her past two years at UW-L. She hopes to continue this tradition during her term as Vice-President as well as spending time in Madison working with the legislators. Karly believes that the relationships UW-L has built within the UW-System and Madison are vital and need to be maintained.

This year, as Vice-President, Karly would like to work to continue the Student Advantage Card while making improvements, increase students’ awareness of Student Senate by having Senators attend Club/Organization meetings, look further into recycling options on and off campus, and work to make sure the quality of education at UW-L is maintained while keeping it affordable.
