The following is a list of common questions asked by students. If you don't not find the answer to your question here, don't hesitate to call us at  (608) 785-8558, however please remember that all information in a student's health record is entirely confidential and is not released to anyone without the student's written consent.

 

tackWhat should I do when the Student Health Center is closed?

There are two medical facilities located close to campus, Franciscan Skemp Healthcare and Gundersen Lutheran, which provide urgent walk-in care and twenty-four hour emergency care. Student fees do not cover these services.  Note: Payment for these services is your responsibility.

tackDo you have real doctors?

Yes. The Student Health Center is staffed by board certified Family Practice Physicians and certified Family Nurse Practitioners.

 

tackWhat is your policy on providing medical excuses?

The staff at the Student Health Center encourages students to make direct contact with faculty members in the event of absence from class due to illness or injury. more information

 

tackWho can use the Student Health Center?

All UW-L and WWTC students are eligible to use the Student Health Center. The fee is automatically included in the tuition statement for students who are registered for a minimum of 7 UW-L credits or 6 WWTC credits during the fall and spring semesters or a minimum of 6 UW-L or WWTC credits during the summer session.  Students who are not enrolled for the minimum credits may also use the Health Center if they pay the Student Health Fee. Students are required to show their UW-L or WWTC picture ID card every time they visit the Health Center.

tackHow do I pay for services?

The Student Health Center will charge all payments to your student account at your respective school.

 

tackIf I have paid the health service fee, do I still need health insurance?

Students are strongly encouraged to obtain supplemental hospital-accident insurance to cover such expenses as hospitalization, emergency services, specialist care, X-rays, pharmacy, and ambulance transport. These costs are not covered by the Student Health Fee.

 

tackWhere can I buy Student Health Insurance?

For those students not covered under family policies, a supplemental insurance plan is available through the University. Information brochures and applications will be mailed to students at their home address in early August. Extra brochures and applications are available at the Health Center. more info

 

tackWill my parents get any information about me from the Student Health Center?

All information in a student's health record is entirely confidential and is not released to anyone without the student's written consent. Students may schedule an appointment with the Health Information Manager to review their medical records.

tackCan I get allergy shots at the Student Health Center?

Allergy injections can be arranged at the Health Center when the allergens and written orders are supplied by the student's personal physician or allergist. Students are required to make an appointment with a Student Health Center physician/medical provider before starting allergy injections. All orders must be updated yearly.
There will be a $20.00 administration fee per semester for this service.

Yes the cost is $2 per 1 dozen

 

tackDoes the Student Health Center test for and treat sexually transmitted diseases?

yes Examination, treatment and education of STD's is provided at the Student health center

 

tackMay I get my birth control pills at the Student Health Center even if someone else prescribed them?

Yes you must provide a written prescription from your primary care provider more

 

tackDoes the Student Health Center provide HIV testing?

Yes Confidential testing is available at a minimum cost

tackMy partner/spouse is not a student and does not have health insurance. Can he/she be treated at the Student Health Center?

No, only currently enrolled students
