Contraceptive Injections

  • Once the injections are stopped ovulation may be delayed up to a year

Oral Contraceptive (The Pill)

  • 99% effective

  • there are many pills available in different doses

  • pills are taken every day and work best if they are taken about the same each day

  • Once the pills are stopped there may be a delay in achieving pregnancy

The Patch

  • 99% effective

  • There is only one contraceptive patch available

  • The patch is applied one a week for 3 weeks during the 4th week no patch is applied

  • Once stopped there may be a delay in achieving pregnancy

Progestin - Releasing Intrauterine Device (IUD)

  • 99% effective

  • There is one hormone releasing IUD available

  • 5 years or less is the suggested length of use

  • Once the IUD is removed fertility can return within a year

Vaginal Ring

  • 99% effective

  • There is one vaginal ring available

  • The ring is inserted vaginally one each month and left in place for 3 weeks during the 4th week no ring is used

  • Once stopped there may be a delay in achieving pregnancy
