Dear Mrs. Roosevelt: Letters From the Children of the Great Depression, Robert Cohen (The University of North Carolina Press, 2002).  Contains almost 200 letters written by teens and children to Eleanor Roosevelt during the Great Depression. 


Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred D. Taylor (Viking Penguin, 1997).  A black family living in Mississippi during the Depression of the 1930s is faced with prejudice and discrimination which its children do not understand.  RL5.7
