Highlights
Are there any events planned for Thursday or Friday
night?
Friday evening we will have a fun, optional
get together just to socialize. We’ll meet at the Badger Bar & Grill,
located in the hotel lobby at 7:00 p.m.
Other options:
Amanda Beld has sent an e-mail to the group
regarding the Badger basketball tournament that will be occurring the
weekend we are there. Beverley Naidoo, author of books about Africa for
children and teens, will be speaking on the UW campus Thursday night. To

Which meals and snacks will be provided at the hotel?
Friday: Breakfast for those that stayed at
the hotel Thursday night
Saturday: Breakfast, Lunch, 2 snack breaks
We will reimburse you for all other meals.
How will my room, mileage, and food expenses be paid?
-
The grant will be directly billed for
the basic cost of your stay. We can not pay for any additional
expenses: movie rentals, phone calls, non-grantee guests, etc. You will
need your personal credit card for these incidentals.
-
Mileage will be paid for at the current
state rate of $0.425/mile. Because many of you are carpooling we will
only pay mileage for those that specifically request it.
-
We will pay a meal allowance for those
meals we are not providing if your travel falls within the allowable
hours for reimbursement (see the next question for specifics). The
current state meal allowance is $8, $9, $17 for breakfast, lunch, and
dinner respectively. You do not need to save the receipts.
-
Do NOT leave Madison without
signing a Travel Expense Report (TER). Due to the extreme variability
of travel plans, final details can be filled-in at the retreat.
What are the rules regarding Travel Expense Reports (TER)?
The following are the rules regarding meal
reimbursement:

only on the following conditions:

you for meals.
How long will it take to get reimbursed?
Currently faculty and staff are being

personal experience this can be incredibly frustrating. I will be
How accurate is the current agenda?
Jodi will send out a finalized agenda on
the 8th. Please check your e-mail.
Which historical sites will we be visiting on
Friday?
We will all be visiting the Wisconsin
Historical Society and the Wisconsin Historical Museum. At 2:30 you will
have your choice of these four places:
-
The Wisconsin Veterans’ Museum
http://museum.dva.state.wi.us/
We do not have enough interest to request a
guided tour. However, the museum’s web-site puts a great emphasis on
classroom tools and applications. Additionally, their research center is
open until 3:30 on Fridays.
http://www.wisconsin.gov/state/capfacts/tour_select.html
This will be a natural extension of the
Wisconsin Historical Museum tour.
-
The Cooperative Children’s Book
Center
http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/
You’ll take a tour, get assistance in
finding primary sources for younger students, and meet the CCBC librarian.
-
The Wisconsin Public
Television/Radio (public broadcasting)
http://www.vilas.uwex.edu/
Carol Larson, Executive Producer of the WPT
history unit, will be there to meet you and give a tour. You’ll also get a
chance to see the radio facilities, and possibly even some live taping of a
television program.
