Cross River
History Consortium
The Cross River
History Consortium is a joint project of the Cooperative Educational Service
Agency 12 and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, generously funded by the
U.S. Department of Education, engaging teachers in grades K-8 in content-rich
professional development in history education between 2002 and 2005.
Project Theme: Storytelling
in History: People, Places, and Events
Over three
years of history colloquia and history retreats, teachers learn about
the methodology of storytelling as a means to introduce history into the
early grades. The Cross River History Consortium helps participating
teachers develop historical perspectives, which inform their work in
developing more historically conscious young learners. The storytelling
theme is developed over the three years within three broad frameworks:
People (2003); Places (2004); and Events (2005) in history.
