    Abroad 101: Steps to Studying Abroad-

    For students interested in studying abroad, but unsure of where to start, Abroad 101 goes through the variety of program options offered at UW-La Crosse. You will learn where you can go, when and how to determine which program is best for you academically. Join us to learn about program searching and the application process, and hear first hand experiences from study abroad alumni.

    Baggage Claim-
    Just getting back from going abroad? Baggage Claim is a re-entry program for study abroad alumni that provides pertinent resources on transitioning back to UWL. Not sure how to put study abroad on your resume? Struggling with how to share your experience with others? Check out our Returnees webpage and don't miss Baggage Claim.


    Cultural Coffee Hours-

    • Facilitated by international students and study abroad alumni, Cultural Coffee Hour is a space to engage in global conversations on a specific topic. Faculty, staff, students and community members are all welcome to join the event, have a cup of coffee or tea and share their perspective. 
    • Presentation formats vary by topic and could be a round table discussion or an individual presentation.

    F-1 OPT Workshop-

    Optional Practical Training (OPT) is defined as temporary employment for practical training directly related to the student's major area of study. If authorized, the employment the student obtains must be commensurate with the student's educational level. The standard OPT allows F-1 international students to apply for 12 months of employment authorization once per progressive educational level. OPT requires approval from a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Service Center. Students interested in applying for OPT are required to attend one OPT workshop the semester they are planning to graduate.

    International Banquet-

    The International banquet is a celebration of cultural awareness and diversity in our community. Each year UW-La Crosse brings together the talents of a variety of international and study abroad students, faculty and staff to offer an evening filled with delicious ethnic foods and a myriad of performances involving cultural music, dancing and acting. The International Banquet is a remarkable endeavors towards enriching and promoting global friendship.

    Pre-Departure Orientation-
    Already planning to study abroad? Mark your calendar to ensure you are at this mandatory orientation session. Students studying abroad Summer, Fall or Academic Year must attend Pre-Departure in the spring semester and students studying Spring, J-term or Spring Break will be required to attend the fall event. 

    Study Abroad Fair-

    Every semester International Education & Engagement coordinates a Study Abroad Fair where students can learn about the many international opportunities available to them here at UW-La Crosse. Programs are available to over 60 countries and range from two weeks over J-term to an academic year. Learn more about studying abroad from professionals, partners and alumni simply by stopping in anytime during the event.
