Click, Clack, Moo:  Introduction

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Department of Theatre Arts will perform Click, Clack, Moo, a children’s theatre production based on the book by Doreen Cronin.  Click, Clack, Moo is the story of Farmer Brown who has a problem with his cows.  The cows find a typewriter and begin to leave Farmer Brown notes about what they need to survive their "work" environment and to produce the milk. They eventually go on strike when Farmer Brown won't meet their demands.   Click, Clack Moo is funny and canny and has an understated message about the power of words and the importance of collaboration and compromise.

The UW-La Crosse Department of Theatre Arts encourages active participation during the children’s show performance of Click, Clack, Moo.  Children, teachers, and chaperones are seated on the stage to be close to the action.  Don’t be surprised when we ask the children to yell or shout during the performance.  However, we do ask that you prepare your students for the theatrical experience by teaching them to be good audience members.

  • Do not play with or move the props that are on the stage.  Having the props in their appropriate location allows for a successful production.
  • Respect the actors and other audience members by listening quietly during the performance.
  • Laugh (like crazy) when something funny happens.  It’s okay to respond to the show.
  • Show your appreciation to the actors and crew by applauding at the end of songs, scenes and especially at the end of the show.
  • Stay in your seat until the play is over.  Wait for your teacher to tell you where to go.
  • Food, drinks, and candy are not allowed in the theatre.
  • Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the show!

The teacher’s manual is a brief guide to promote discussion and activities in your classrooms before and after seeing the theatrical production of Click, Clack, Moo.  It is our intention to enable teachers to use the production and this guide as a stepping stone for various lesson plans in the classroom.  We’ve included a variety of information regarding character education and teaching kindness, as well as information on theatre, vocabulary words, and activities that can be shaped to fit the needs of your students.   Lastly, the UW-La Crosse Theatre Department’s goal is to provide an enjoyable experience for you and your students.  We welcome your feedback and suggestions to improve the theatrical experience for you and your students.   Also, we enjoy receiving pictures drawn by your students of their favorite scenes, characters, etc.  These are shared with the cast and put on display in the Theatre office.  Please send drawings to:
