The UW-L Student Association is the student governance body at UW-L, with offices located on the mezzanine in Room 235, Cartwright Center. Each student enrolled at the university is a member of the Student Association. Executives and senators are elected by the student body each year. The Student Association gives official recognition and funding to campus organizations, allocates segregated fee money, brings forth student issues to the administration, and is the official voice of the students at UW-L. The Student Association Committees are: Apportionment, Student Organizations, Athletics, Cultural Affairs, Student Services and Buildings, Legislative Affairs, Academic Affairs, Student Technology Fee, and Student Diversity.

Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the governing body for social fraternities on campus. Representatives from each fraternity meet weekly to discuss current Greek issues, organize scholarship, and discuss risk management, philanthropic events, campus concerns, and judicial matters.

The Panhellenic Council strives to promote harmony among the sororities on campus. The council also promotes scholastic achievement and high moral standards. Every fall, a recruitment is held for all UW-La Crosse women. All are encouraged to attend the fall recruitment. The Panhellenic Council at UW-La Crosse is affiliated with the National Panhellenic Conference.

Residence Hall Association Council serves as the student governance body for residents living in the residence halls and for residence life at UW-L. RHAC is involved in policy development, programming, development of positive relationships within the campus community, and involvement within state, regional, and national residence associations.
