U-LEAD Tracking Program

A : Involvement

Involvement is a very important area for students to learn and develop leadership skills. By getting involved, students get to know other students, faculty and staff, learn about themselves, and experience the campus and community in which they are living.

Students must complete three of the four below:

  1. Join a student organization and attend meetings.

Contact University Centers for more information on student organizations ~ 785-8866 and/or consult their website.

    Or

Hold an on-campus job. Contact Financial Aid for more information on student employment ~ 785-8604 and/or consult the job board.

  1. Attend a Student Senate meeting.

Wednesdays at 6:00pm in room 339 of Cartwright Center.

    Or

Attend a Hall Council meeting. Hall council meeting times vary by residence hall.  Please contact your hall front desk to find out specific times and locations.

  1. Attend an Eagle Roundtable

Student leaders are given the opportunity to dialogue with the Chancellor on a variety of issues of concern to students. Call 785-8888 for more information (held once per semester).

  1. Attend two UW-La Crosse Athletics events.

Consult the UW-L Athletics website for a complete listing of all UW-L men’s and women’s athletic team events, times, and locations.

B: Volunteerism

By volunteering, participants in the U-Lead program will learn to take a risk and try a new and different experience outside of the campus community.  Through volunteering, participants will develop leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, all enhancing one’s self-confidence.  Volunteering also develops new friendships and connections with people from all walks of life.

The Involvement Center is happy to help participants find a multitude of volunteering opportunities and assist the student in arranging volunteer work.  They can be reached at 785-6600 or involvement@uwlax.edu.  There will also be opportunities at least once per semester for U-Lead participants to join together in a group volunteer effort.  Information on those activities will be shared via email updates.  U-Lead participants already serving in organizations are encouraged to provide volunteer information and opportunities to our office or via email, for other U-Lead participants.

Students can attend the Involvement Fest on September 20 from 10-3 to speak with representatives from community agencies. Other volunteer opportunities are listed on the Involvement Center website.

Each participant is required to complete ten hours of community service.

C: Cultural Awareness

As leaders develop, they need to be comfortable with other cultures different from their own.  This track of the U-Lead program will allow the student to expand their knowledge and understanding in the area of cultural awareness.  Participants in the program will become educated in other cultures, develop an appreciation for these differences, and be able to share their experiences with others.

Students must attend one event in four of the nine categories below.

1. Attend a UW-L play at Toland Theatre.

For tickets, contact the Theatre Box Office at 785-8522. Student ticket prices range from $3-4. For further information on prices and descriptions of the shows, visit the Theatre website
