Business World at UW-L July 26-29
More than 130 high school students from around the state are on campus Sunday, July 26, through Wednesday, July 29, for Business World 2009.
The four-day program brings high school students and business volunteers together to learn about the challenges facing the economy.
Participants are divided into teams of up to 12 who function as an "imaginary" company for the program. With the task of turning the company into a financial success, students create a unique product, develop marketing strategies and design a commercial.
Additionally, students interact with guest speakers, tour local companies and compete in an online business simulation.

Individuals with outstanding leave reports will have their sick leave capped. To ensure everyone has the opportunity to avoid having sick leave capped, if you receive a monthly leave report remember the Unclassified Personnel Guideline (UPG) 10 regarding sick leave: all individuals with outstanding leave reports for the prior fiscal year (July 2008 through June 2009 and including summer session 2008) will have their sick leave capped on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009.
The cap will be administered as follows:
- Academic year appointments will have their sick leave capped at 6.4 days/year or 51.2 hours.
- Annual appointments will have their sick leave capped at 8.5 days/year or 68.0 hours.
- Individuals will have until 4:30 Friday, Aug. 14, to return missing reports from the previous fiscal year.
Note: Your last received leave report will include all outstanding reports that you are responsible for. Have them completed with appropriate signatures and dates and ensure they are returned to Human Resources, 144 Graff Main Hall, prior to the Aug. 15 deadline to ensure your leave is not capped and you do not unnecessarily forfeit this benefit.

"UW-L at 100: Alumni connect through centennial Web site," July 23 La Crosse Tribune article. Larry Lebiecki has fond memories of 1959. He was the linebacker in jersey number 72 out on the football field, playing for Wisconsin State College, La Crosse. He was living it up that season, as the team won eight of nine games. "If fundraising efforts continue to be fruitful, Eagles will play baseball in 2010," July 23 La Crosse Tribune article. The game was supposed to end on June 5 with the announcement that UW-L was cutting baseball and men’s tennis. It was a cost-saving measure during hard economic times, dwindling budgets, and an uncertain future. Part of the decision made sense, part of it didn’t. Emotions were stirred with present and past players. www.lacrossetribune.com/articles/2009/07/23/sports/00lead.txt.
