UPWARD BOUND PRACTICE ACT

ALL UB students are REQUIRED to take the UB practice ACT!
(except those who have scored at benchmark or higher on each section of the official ACT OR who have been accepted to college and have turned in their acceptance letter to UB)

Taking this test every year will help you

O   become familiar with the format of the test
O   become familiar with the types of questions in each section (English, Math, Reading, Science)
O   practice pacing yourself
O   find out what areas you may need to improved on before you take the real ACT in spring of your junior year
O   learn more about ACT scoring and how your scores are used by colleges
O   earn an ACT fee waiver (juniors)
= all of the above

PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND THE UB ACT PRACTICE TEST SESSION AT YOUR NORMAL TUTORING LOCATION:

HOLMEN - Wednesday, January 9 - 1:30 p.m.

SPARTA - Wednesday, January 16 after early release lunch (time TBA)

TOMAH - Wednesday, January 9 after early release lunch (time TBA)

ALL OTHERS (and those who missed their regular session) - Saturday, January 19 - 8:30 a.m. in Centennial Hall room 2102
lunch provided after this test only for test-takers staying for the Winter Fun Daze event in the afternoon

IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND AT YOUR NORMAL TUTORING LOCATION OR THE MAKE UP SITE, EMAIL UB ASAP!

PREPARE FOR THE UB PRACTICE ACT BY

=   getting enough sleep (seven to nine hours) the night before the test
=   eating a good meal BEFORE you take the test
=   bringing two #2 pencils with erasers
=   bringing a calculator with you if you have one**

**The following types of calculators are prohibited:

  • calculators with built-in computer algebra systems
    Prohibited calculators in this category include:
    • Texas Instruments: All model numbers that begin with TI-89 or TI-92 and the TI-Nspire CAS—Note: The TI-Nspire (non-CAS) is permitted.
    • Hewlett-Packard: HP 48GII and all model numbers that begin with HP 40G, HP 49G, or HP 50G
    • Casio: Algebra fx 2.0, ClassPad 300 and ClassPad 330, and all model numbers that begin with CFX-9970G
  • handheld, tablet, or laptop computers, including PDAs
  • electronic writing pads or pen-input devices—Note: The Sharp EL 9600 is permitted.
  • calculators built into cell phones or any other electronic communication devices
  • calculators with a typewriter keypad (letter keys in QWERTY format)—Note: Letter keys not in QWERTY format are permitted.
