| POSITION DESCRIPTION |
Description/Primary Responsibilities: UW-L is a member of the highly competitive nine-member NCAA Division III Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association (WIAC) and is seeking a Head Men’s Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field Coach (40%) and associate lecturer in the Health Professions Department (50%) for a 90% academic year appointment.
The Head Men’s Track & Field Coach will oversee the entire intercollegiate men’s indoor and outdoor track & field program. The coach will provide direction in long range planning, scheduling, budgeting, recruiting, and fundraising. The Head Coach will work with the Director of Athletics, Athletics Committee, L Club, and the University administration in conducting the program. The coach will select, train, and evaluate, staff, and will be primarily responsible for recruiting, training, and coaching qualified student-athletes. The coach will have a working understanding of and comply with departmental, institutional, conference, and NCAA Division III philosophy, rules, regulations, and bylaws. This staff member will also serve on the Athletic Program’s administration team, attend and participate in the Athletic Program’s weekly administrative meetings, attend and present at all bi-monthly departmental meetings, attend institutional meetings when the Director or Associate Director are not available, and other responsibilities as required.
The Candidate will have a 50% assignment in the Department of Health Professions teaching two sections of a 3-credit general education course, Analysis of Health, Wellness, & Disease for the Healthcare Consumer. This course utilizes a case-based pedagogy and includes a variety of health-related topics such as cardiovascular disease, immunizations, health insurance, advanced directives, etc. Candidates are expected to be effective teachers, have a commitment to high quality student-focused instruction, have an interest in and concern for students, and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching.
Minimum qualifications include: · Earned Master’s degree in a health profession or health promotion area · Minimum of three years of coaching track and field (college level experience is preferred) · Evidence of effective teaching at the post-secondary level · Demonstration of ability to facilitate group work · Strong interpersonal skills · Excellent oral and written communication skills · Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with academic colleagues

Appointment – The position is a 90% academic year appointment (40% coaching assignment in Athletics, 50% Associate Lecturer in Health Professions).
Start Date: Academic Year Appointment (August 25, 2008 – May 24, 2009)
