1.   POSITION DESCRIPTION:  INTERNSHIP

(Hours/Week=Variable)

The Violence Prevention Office addresses sexual assault, relationship violence and stalking at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Western Technical College.  An advocate/educator offers victims support, information, resources, and referrals, as well as providing training and education for campus individuals and groups.  The project’s goals include encouraging a victim-sensitive approach to these problems, and strengthening the relationships between campus and community service providers. 

The responsibilities of the Intern include: 

  • Answering requests for information, resources and referrals
  • Networking with various campus and community groups
  • Assisting with preparing and delivering presentations about domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Helping to plan and carry out public awareness, advertising, and community education efforts
  • Assisting with data collection and reports
  • Assisting with website and D2L course maintenance
  • Staffing the Violence Prevention Office (answering phones, making copies, etc.)
  • Attending the monthly Violence Prevention Advisory Council Meeting, and other campus and community meetings as assigned

2.  POSITION DESCRIPTION:  GRADUATE ASSISTANT

(20 Hours Per Week)

The Violence Prevention Office addresses sexual assault, relationship violence and stalking at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Western Technical College.  An advocate/educator offers victims support, information, resources, and referrals, as well as providing training and education for campus individuals and groups.  Our goals include encouraging a victim-sensitive approach to these problems, and strengthening the relationships between campus and community service providers. 

The responsibilities of the Graduate Assistant include: 

  • Individual and group advocacy (training provided)
  • Answering requests for information, resources and referrals
  • Networking with various campus and community groups
  • Assisting with preparing and delivering presentations about domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Helping to plan and carry out public awareness, advertising, and community education efforts
  • Assisting with data collection and reports
  • Assisting with training and supervising student interns, volunteers, and Peer Educators
  • Assisting with website and D2L course maintenance
  • Staffing the Violence Prevention Office (answering phones, making copies, etc.)
  • Attending monthly Violence Prevention Advisory Council Meeting, and other campus and community meetings as assigned
