Important Cancellation Information

The Cuba Travel Tour with UW-La Crosse has been cancelled per the direction of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Emergency Response Task Force. On Wednesday, March 11, 2020, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Chancellor informed the UW-La Crosse Office of Extended Learning that all university-related out-of-state travel is suspended until Monday, April 13, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We regret that you will be unable to travel as you had planned and hope you understand that this decision was made with great deliberation in the best interest of public health. You will be refunded the full registration fee that you paid for the Cuba Travel Tour with UW-La Crosse.

Specialty areas:

Contemporary Latin American and Latino literature and cultural studies, Caribbean studies, film studies, migration studies and literary translation.

Omar Granados grew up in Havana, Cuba and later received his Ph.D. from Emory University, in Atlanta, GA. He is interested in cultural approaches on migration, collective memory, documentary and social justice and the role of public scholarship in our communities. He has authored numerous academic articles and chapters in edited collections and is currently working on a book entitled After Fidel: The Cultural Work of Mourning in Post-Socialist Cuba which examines literary, historic and film narratives from Cuba and the Cuban diaspora. 

At UWL, he teaches courses on Latin American literature, history and cultural studies, contemporary film and visual culture, Latino studies, and Spanish language. Omar also serves in the role of Director of the UWL Institute for Latin American and Latino/a Studies.
