Lisa Kruse, Sociology & Criminal Justice, received the Wisconsin Sociological Association George Floro Outstanding Service to the Discipline Award at Wisconsin Sociological Association Annual Meeting on Nov. 4 in Whitewater, WI.

Lisa Kruse

Lisa Kruse, Sociology & Criminal Justice, presented "Study Committee on Policing (SCOP) Final Recommendations" at La Crosse County Judiciary and Law Committee on Oct. 10 in La Crosse. The final recommendation is to create a Civilian Review Board (CRB), an advocacy group that works to bridge relationships between law enforcement and communities, particularly marginalized communities. This recommendation was developed over a year and a half by a committee appointed by the county based on their expertise in the area of policing. Dr. Kruse presented the recommendation on behalf of the committee with Onalaska Police Chief Charles Ashbeck and Vincent Loera, MSW. It now goes to the full county board for consideration on adopting the recommendation.

Nicholas Bakken and Lisa Kruse, both Sociology & Criminal Justice, co-authored the article "Creating Legitimacy in a Diversion Court: Testing the Theoretical Framework of Procedural Justice and Therapeutic Jurisprudence" in Drug Court Review published on Sept. 13 by NDCRC.

Nicholas Bakken, Sociology & Criminal Justice, was elected to the Wisconsin Department of Justice Crisis Intervention Advisory Board. This advisory board will develop and implement a crisis intervention plan related to gun violence in Wisconsin.

Nicholas Bakken, Sociology & Criminal Justice, authored the article "Depression, Self-injury, and Suicidal Ideation: An Examination of the Risk Factors and Psychosocial Correlates Among Female College Students" in Deviant Behavior published on Tuesday, July 18 by Taylor-Francis. Co-authored by Sarah Malone, UWL alum and graduate student at the University of Iowa.
