Outcomes-based funding

OUTCOMES-BASED FUNDING & METRICS

UWL received ~1.2 million dollars in base-budget funding for the fiscal year 2018-2019 that ties to specific outcome metrics. WI state law (Wis. Stats. §36.112), established the following goals for the UW System in terms of the funding.

  • Growing and ensuring student access;
  • Improving and excelling at student progress and completion;
  • Expanding contributions to the workforce; and
  • Enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness.

For each goal, the statute required the Board of Regents to identify at least four metrics to measure an institution’s progress toward meeting the goal and the goals and metrics have been approved by the state.

Each metric is shown below with the corresponding operationalization.  Each category is weighted 25%; whereas, campuses have the opportunity to adjust the weighting of each of the four metrics within each category. The data for each metric is based on a 3-year average per each campus.  In addition, the data largely reflect information UWL already provides to system on an annual basis.
