Mental Health and Trauma in PK-12

In collaboration with: WASCD and UWL Professional Studies in Education

This credit course is appropriate for all participants in the conference. Participants will reflect on what was learned in the conference and engage in extension activities that will help them better understand and apply this information and insight to their specific contexts. 

Conference participants who take this credit will gain a deeper understanding and/or practice in the following:

  • mental health and trauma in PK-12 and specific strategies to engage all students in learning success
  • leadership skills in addressing mental health and trauma in PK-12 discussions as well as teaching adult learners methods to address student differences through curriculum and instruction
  • challenges of poverty, cultural differences, gender issues, racial issues, mental health conditions and other differences as they relate to the classroom environment
  • specific methods of student engagement to address individual and group differences in the classroom in new and creative ways
  • structured activities and structured discussions around these key conference issues to support the development of strategies to use in the classroom with UWL professors and other staff members with expertise in these key conference issues
  • determine appropriate technology modes and uses to address students’ individual differences in the classroom
  • develop a network of colleagues with whom to share ongoing teaching and engagement strategies to support all learners, PK-12
