Eligibility and requirements

Teacher Eligibility

To be eligible to teach in the concurrent enrollment program, teachers must have the following:

  • Master’s degree or higher in discipline or subfield taught

OR, if teacher holds a master’s degree or higher in a discipline or subfield other than that in which he or she is teaching, that teacher should have completed:

  • Minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield taught (an institution may determine that a teacher is qualified based on experience that the institution determines is equivalent to the degree it would otherwise require for a faculty position)
  • Demonstration of equivalent experience as determined by UWL academic departments

Applying to Teach Concurrent Enrollment Programs

If you are interested in teaching concurrent enrollment courses, please

  • Submit online application including resume and transcripts
  • Participate in a one-on-one interview with UWL concurrent enrollment faculty instructor or group interview with school district, UWL academic department, and/or Extended Learning representative(s)

Prerequisites for High School Teachers

UW-La Crosse's course, ENG 500 is a prerequisite for teaching the concurrent enrollment ENG 110 course. In ENG 500, you will: 

  • Learn more about the pedagogy of writing
  • Gain skills to advance your instructional practice
  • Obtain one of the requirements to teach a concurrent enrollment English course
