May 22–23, 2019 | UW-La Crosse

Stzrelczyk Great Hall, UWL Cleary Alumni & Friends Center, 615 East Ave. N., La Crosse, WI 54601

A population who understands sustainability and resilience, two concepts that transcend academic silos, is crucial in order to deliberately—and equitably—respond to the environmental realities we face.

Are you preparing your students to be engaged and
thoughtful citizens of the world?

Attendees of the Driftless Region Sustainability in Education Project workshop will learn how to authentically integrate these concepts into their curriculum, network with instructors from institutions of higher education in the "Driftless Region", and gain a deeper understanding of place-based pedagogy. This workshop is appropriate for faculty in any discipline.

In this engaging workshop, participants will:

  • Grapple with the concepts of sustainability and resilience, and discuss why they are vital for our students to understand.
  • Explore pedagogy for place-based education and best practices for use in course development.
  • Brainstorm and discuss sustainability-related learning outcomes and means for assessing them.
  • Create at least one sustainability focused learning activity and/or assignment to implement in an existing course.
