Youth scholarships—generously provided by Xcel Energy—are available for students attending summer youth programs at UW-La Crosse (UWL) through Extended Learning. These programs provide young students with hands-on learning experiences in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), art and culinary skills. Extended Learning offers two types of scholarships:
- Need-based scholarship amounts will be determined primarily by financial need
- Merit-based scholarship amounts will be determined primarily by demonstration of academic performance
Scholarship applications can be submitted here.
Scholarships cover up to 85% of youth program registration fees and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. UWL Extended Learning summer youth program scholarships are available each year starting February 1, and are awarded by June 8, 2021; funds will be applied to 2021 summer youth programs.
Any student planning to attend an Extended Learning summer youth program can apply. Scholarship recipients are selected based on financial need, academic merit or teacher recommendation, depending on the scholarship selected.
Scholarships are reviewed and awarded on a first-come-first-served basis, so apply early. You may submit your application as early as February 1 but applications will not be reviewed until the deadline dates below. To be considered for review, applications must include all supporting documents.

The table below provides the percentage of program fees that will be provided through a scholarship. If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be required to pay the difference (rounded to the nearest dollar) between the chosen summer program and the scholarship amount. Payment of this difference secures your registration for the program.
Merit-based scholarships cover 65–85% or program fees. If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be required to pay the difference (rounded to the nearest dollar) between the chosen summer program and the scholarship amount. Payment of this difference secures your registration for the program.
Each student may only receive one Extended Learning scholarship per summer. Scholarships are good for one Extended Learning youth program per summer and does not include supply/equipment fees. Scholarships are not available for programs $321 or more.
