Beginning with the 2016-17 academic year, parents who wish to borrow a Parent PLUS Loan must apply at www.studentloans.gov. A Federal Student Aid (FSA) User ID and password are required.
Parents should wait until the student has received their financial aid award before completing their online application.
Parents who believe that they would be denied the Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan due to adverse credit may complete the Parent PLUS Loan Credit Check Request Form, authorizing a credit check to be completed to determine eligibility.
If the result of the credit check is a denial, the student will be notified of additional Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan eligibility.
If the credit is approved, the Financial Aid Office will notify the parent of the approval and the additional requirements should they choose to complete the Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan process.
If the loan you are requesting if for the entire academic year, the loan period will be September 2016 to May 2017. If the loan is for fall only, use September 2016 to December 2016. Spring would be January 2017 to May 2017. Most parents borrow for the entire year (fall and spring) with half disbursing each term.
