COVID-19 alternative trip

First Flight Covid Edition 

This year about 30 participants came to UW-L a week early to start a modified and socially distant First Flight Program. Students get to move in early and be a part of a program that builds a community for students at UW-L through outdoor activities. Participants kayaked in the Mississippi, climbed the Mitchell rock wall, zipped on the high ropes course, rappelled Cowley, frisbee golfed, and hiked all over the bluffs. They got to meet other students who value the outdoors and create relationships that last a lifetime. Students get a scavenger hunt tour of the University and learn from current students the ins and outs of UW-L.  

 

2020 First Flight Itinerary  

Sunday, August 30 

9:00am-12:00pm        Move into Res Halls 

12:00am-1:00pm        Lunch on your own/with parents 

1:00pm-3:00pm          Check in & Organize groups-3 groups (Football Stadium) 

  Ice Breakers/Games and Activities at Football Stadium (wear mask) 

3:00pm- 5:00pm         Scavenger Hunt around Campus 

5:30pm-6:30pm          Dinner at Whitney Center 

6:30pm-7:30pm          Evening Activities (soccer, mafia, slackline) 

8:00-10:00pm            Night Hike up bluffs in Hixon Forest- Upper Hixon Trail 

11:00pm-7:00am        Sleep in Residence Hall 

  

Monday, August 31 
7:30-8:30am              Breakfast Whitney Center 

9:00-4:00pm              Ropes Course at North Campus for all participants’/Mitchell Indoor course (Rain) 

                                 Group 1 Outdoor/Indoor Ropes Course & Rappelling after (pack lunch) 

                                 Group 2 Pettibone (pack lunch) Canoeing, Frisbee disc golf 

 Group 3 Hiking the Bluff Learning Hixon Forest Trails and sweet lookout points on Bluffs! (pack lunch) 

5:30-6:30pm              Dinner at Whitney Center 

6:30-7:00pm              Free time 

7:00-10:00pm            Downtown walk to River and Ice Cream at the Pearl 

10:00pm-7:00am        Sleep in Residence Hall
