Financial support

The Department of Recreation Management and Therapeutic Recreation has assistantships available on a competitive basis. Duties vary, but usually involved helping faculty with teaching and research. There also are the possibilities of exciting assistantships coordinating intramural programs for nearby Wisconsin Technical College and our own campus outdoor recreation program. Assistantships are awarded for the nine-month academic year beginning fall semester. Assistantships may include:

  • Salary
  • Fee reduction for out-of-state tuition
  • Departmental office
  • Health Insurance

To be considered for an assistantship, a student must:

  1. Submit a completed assistantship application by March 1 Graduate Assistantship Application
  2. Be admitted to the masters program in good standing (this means applying for admission no later than January)


UW-La Crosse Graduate Studies offers competitive grants for students. These include grants up to $1600 to support graduate student research and up to $300 to support student travel to conferences.
