Student vaccine incentives

While we are excited for a much more normal 2021-22 school year, we know COVID-19 remains a serious threat to our campus and community. That’s why we have launched a voluntary incentive program — with prize and scholarship drawings — designed to boost student vaccination rates. This is in addition to UW System’s “70 for 70” campaign, which awards scholarships to campuses that reach a 70% vaccination rate among students. Below, you can read more about both incentive programs. For general information about the vaccine, click here.

Student vaccine incentives FAQ

How do I become eligible for UWL prizes and scholarships? expanding section

To be entered in the drawings, students must complete a short survey and grant UWL’s Student Health Center permission to confirm their vaccination status by Oct. 31. (This deadline has been extended from Oct. 15.) Only vaccinated students are eligible.

Are you requiring students to get vaccinated? expanding section

We encourage — but do not require — students to get vaccinated.

Why are you incentivizing students to get vaccinated? expanding section

The COVID-19 vaccine is proven to slow the spread of the virus and prevent instances of death and serious illness. It is also the key to returning to normal as quickly as possible. High vaccination rates on campus will allow us to deliver the instruction and campus experiences that students deserve and families expect.

How is this being funded? expanding section

The campaign is funded through UWL’s Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) from the federal government.

How is UW System incentivizing students to get vaccinated? expanding section

In addition to the prizes and scholarships offered by UWL, UW System is awarding scholarships to campuses that reach a 70% vaccination rate among students. By hitting 70%, UWL can unlock at least seven $7,000 scholarships distributed via drawing. Click here for more information about System’s “70 for 70” campaign.

Does UWL have a goal for student vaccination rates? expanding section

We are hoping that 70% of our students will report that they are vaccinated by Oct. 31. (This deadline has been extended from Oct. 15.) The 70% threshold is based on estimates for reaching herd immunity, which indicates a base level of community-wide protection.
