While the overall costs of attending college vary with each student, there are certain costs which can be anticipated.

Summer Internships

A select number of internships will be billed with the 6-9 credit plateau in summer to reduce the overall cost of the tuition.  Here are estimated costs:

In the fall and spring semesters, there is a full-time tuition plateau.  This allows for 12-18 credits to cost the same tuition rate.  The plateau does not apply to education abroad courses.

What other charges will I see?

The amounts listed above include charges for textbook rental, Segregated fees, Differential Tuition and Growth Quality Access Differential Tuition. Learn more about these programs.

These rates are for in-person and on-line classes that are not part of an on-line degree program.  Tuition rates remain the same for all classes even those that move on-line due to COVID-19.

All students will be charged segregated fees unless enrolled in an on-line degree program.

All undergraduate students will also be charged a $25 registration fee (non-refundable) per term, a $6.50 Career Services fee per semester (not charged for winter) and a $2 DLE Canvas fee per credit.

Students may be assessed fees for supplemental materials, lab manuals or field trips for certain courses, known as Special Course Fees.

New undergraduate students will also be charged a $175 enrollment fee and may be charged a $45 placement test fee.

A one time $50 graduation fee will be billed after completing 95 credits.

Some allied health majors have additional costs during clinical internships.  Computer Engineering students at junior and senior level (60+ credits) have an additional fee .  Those costs can be found using the button below.  A fee was approved for all Business classes 200 level and above.  This will begin in fall 2023 and add a charge of $13.50 to every credit.

Textbooks are included as part of textbook rental.

What other charges will I see?

There are no other tuition fees associated with HWM, HIMT, DS, HCA, ITM, CYB, DMK, or FNT prefix courses.

If other UWL courses are taken outside of these prefixes, such as general education requirements, you will be billed regular UWL tuition and fees for those courses. 

There may also be a charge for placement test fees.

A one time $50 graduation fee will be billed.

For undergraduates (not in an on-line program) in fall and spring semesters anything 12 credits and above is considered full-time. 12 to 18 credits are the same tuition rate.  You will not get a tuition refund if you drop from 15 to 12 credits.  The only refund may be the $2 per credit canvas fee depending on the date of the drop.  You will not pay extra tuition if you go from 13 to 16 credits (unless the added course has a special course fee).  You will pay an additional $6 in the canvas fee. 

For graduate and doctorate students (not in an on-line program) anything 9 credits and above is considered full-time and is the same tuition rate.  If you drop from 12 to 9 credits you will not get a tuition refund. The only refund may be the $2 per credit canvas fee depending on the date of the drop.  You will not pay extra tuition if you go from 9 to 12 credits (unless the added course has a special course fee).  You will pay an additional $6 in the canvas fee.

Minnesota residents can attend under the reciprocity program. However, they must file an "Application for Reciprocity Fee Status". Applications are available at your high school guidance office or the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. Choose the year you will be attending school. The application for the 2023-24 year is currently available.  The application for 2024-25 should be available in March 2024.

WI Residents add $274.24 per credit, MN reciprocity add $303.75 per credit, Non-residents add $650.91 per credit. MSEP add $411.36 per credit and RW add $488.18 per credit.

Non-degree students who register for AUDIT ONLY:

All new freshmen, exchange students and some contract students are required to live in campus housing. All housing contracts are for a full academic year, unless you are on a one semester exchange/contract program.

Dependents
If you plan to bring dependents, additional costs will be applied for I-20/DS-2019 purposes.

What are the International costs included above?

Orientation Fee
New international students are charged an International Student Orientation Fee their first semester at UW-La Crosse. This fee goes towards meals, programming, transportation costs, materials, facilities rental, personnel fees, and other miscellaneous costs to achieve a successful orientation program that acclimates new international students to the UW-La Crosse campus and community.

  • International Advising Fee
    All international students are charged an International Advising Fee each term that goes towards the shipping/mailing expenses of immigration documents, professional memberships and affiliations for compliance assurance, training and staff development, emergency response systems for international students, software costs to ensure compliance with the rules and regulations, and other miscellaneous costs including program and event supplies.
  • International Support Fee
    All international students are charged an International Support fee each term that goes towards international admissions and recruitment.

International Health Insurance
International students are required to have health insurance coverage in order to be in compliance with Federal and Institutional regulations. UW-La Crosse offers affordable health insurance coverage through our insurance provider. Each semester that students are enrolled, they will be automatically signed up for coverage and will be billed directly to their student account. 

International Contract Fee
International students who enroll at UW-La Crosse through an agreement with another university may be charged an International Contract Fee. This fee supports costs associated with the ongoing development and negotiation of these agreements in order to increase access for international students to UW-La Crosse and strengthen our relationships with universities from around the world.
