No matter your interest, the UWL Modern Languages Department can expand your understanding of the world.
Our mission as a Department of Modern Languages is to develop students' linguistic and cultural competence, including effective communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills. As a key cultural center within UWL, our charge is to prepare students to engage in, contribute to, and serve constantly evolving and diverse regional, national, and world communities. Each member of the faculty has traveled, studied, and lived in the cultures that speak the language(s) in which she/he specializes. If you are interested in participating in a study abroad program, we likely have a faculty member who is familiar with or specializes in that region and can help you prepare for your intercultural experience.
