<p>UWL Archaeology alum Kim Thompson ('20) recently visited students participating in a six-week field program, Gete Anishinaabe Izhichigewin Community Archaeology Project (GAICAP) in Red Cliff, Wisconsin.&nbsp; Thompson (second from left) now works as a Forest Service archaeologist and shared her insight about heritage management careers with the students. GAICAP is a partnership between the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Tribal Historic Preservation Office and academic archaeologists, including UWL's Dr. Heather Walder (second from right), who co-directs the project.</p>

<p><strong>David Anderson</strong>, Archaeology &amp; Anthropology, directed "Training in Digital Documentation of Architectural Remains" on March 13 in Cairo, Egypt. Anderson was invited to conduct a weeklong training seminar in the digital documentation of ancient architectural remains using 3D photogrammetry. The training session was for employees of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. Training consisted of a combination of classroom presentations at the Cairo offices of the American Research Center in Egypt together with experiential learning through on-site, hands-on experience documenting the Fatimid Period (12th Century A.D.) Shrine of Ikhwat Youssef in the cemeteries of Old Cairo, <a href="https://goo.gl/maps/7Bd2hQ5uogAVKBHx6" data-mce-href="https://goo.gl/maps/7Bd2hQ5uogAVKBHx6">https://goo.gl/maps/7Bd2hQ5uogAVKBHx6</a>. The presentation provided a reading list for conducting de-colonizing, anti-racist, and collaborative archaeological practices in the context of cultural resource management.</p><p><strong>Elizabeth Peacock</strong>, Archaeology &amp; Anthropology, was interviewed by Tyler Job of WKBT Channel 8 on Feb. 25. Peacock is a scholar of Ukraine, having conducted research in the country since 2003. <p><strong>Canadian Journal of Archaeology</strong><br>Heather Walder, Archaeology &amp; Anthropology, co-authored the article "Compositional Analysis of Glass Beads from Huron-Wendat Contexts at the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette Mission Site, Quebec" in the Canadian Journal of Archaeology published on Dec. 1, 2021 by the Canadian Archaeological Association. This is a contribution with co-author Stéphane Noël to a collaborative special issue, Current Archaeology of the Huron-Wendat and St. Lawrence Iroquoians.</p><p><strong>Archaeologies of Indigenous Presence</strong><br>Heather Walder, Archaeology &amp; Anthropology, authored the chapter "Seeking Indigenous Trade Networks of the Midcontinent through Glass Beads from La Belle (41MG86) " in Archaeologies of Indigenous Presence published on Tuesday, Feb. 15 by University Press of Florida. The author applied materials science methods to identify patterns of interaction and exchange among Indigenous communities during the 17th and 18th century in the Great Lakes region.</p>

The research is an international collaboration and a methodological advancement that will facilitate inter-regional comparisons of archaeological datasets to examine large-scale questions about interaction and exchange.</p>
