WINTER BREAK 2017 TRIPS

California Dreamin' - Surfing, biking, kayaking and camping at the beach

Description

Join the Outdoor Connection as we head west to San Diego, CA to escape the bitter midwest winter and enjoy some sweet Cali rays. During this week-long adventure, we will spend three days surfing Pacific Beach. When we are not riding the SoCal waves, we will be kayaking Mission Bay, hiking unique trails along the west coast, and exploring the city of San Diego by bike. We’ll spend our nights around a fire under the stars at San Elijo State Beach. Get stoked for SoCal

Price $850 on or before December 1st.  $875 after December 1st. Does not include transportation to San Diego

Price Includes  Meals, surf lessons, board rental, kayak rental, bike rental, camping and group equipment.
Registration All trips and clinics are based on a first come first served basis.  A nonrefundable $150.00 deposit is required for all winter break trips. Register at the Outdoor Connection or at https://recsports.uwlax.edu.

Refunds  The Outdoor Connection incurs, in advance, certain expenses related to each trip, such as contracted guides, facility reservations, and specialized equipment purchases or rental.   A full refund will be given if the OC has to cancel the trip for any reason.  **Cancellation prior to 30 days before the trip departures will result in a forfeit of the full registration fee.**

Eligibility UW-L students always have priority, however, when possible faculty/staff and the general public are eligible. Registration fees are higher for non-students.  All participants must also meet the essential eligibility requirements listed on the back of this flyer.

Activity Rating  This trip is considered moderately strenuous because of the planned activities. Surfing requires significant physical exertion and is a major component of this trip.  All activities will be at your own pace following the Challenge by Choice environment we expect to create. 

 

Big Bend National Park - Rio Grande Paddle & Hike

Head south with the Outdoor Connection, as we explore the remote wilderness of Big Bend National Park in Texas. We will paddle down the famous Rio Grande River for three days, exploring the beautiful canyons and foraging new friendships along the way.

After we paddle, we’ll head inland to the unique landscapes within the National Park boundaries, climbing peaks and exploring deserts along the way. Pack your bags and grab your paddles for this expedition that is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience!

Arizona Trail - Backpacking and Horseback Riding

Have a passion for some serious backpacking? The Gila River and Alamo Canyons are two passages of the southern section of the Arizona Trail which offer some of the most remote, challenging, and gorgeous backpacking trails! Join us on trail for four days of backpacking, a half day of horseback riding through the Goldfield Mountains, and a send-off with a hike to the summit of one of Arizona’s Four Peaks! This trip is for those that prefer to roam by foot and take every sight in one step at a time

This trip is considered very strenuous and is the most physically challenging trip the OC will offer this winter break.  Participants must be in top physical condition to sign up for this trip. 

 

 

Winter In the Boundary Waters - Dog Sledding, Snowshoeing, Cross Country Skiing - 5 Days

Join us for an experience of a lifetime as we explore the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness by dog sled, snowshoe, and cross-country ski. Highly qualified mushers and guides will help make the most of this unique winter experience. The YMCA Camp Menogyn will serve as a base camp for the variety of day trip activities. No experience is necessary, only a desire for adventure.

This trip is considered to be low to moderately strenuous because of the planned activities. Dog Sledding will require little physical exertion, but your body will be using a lot of energy in the cold. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing will be more strenuous. All activities will be at your own pace following the Challenge by Choice environment we expect to create.
