WINTER BREAK 2018-2019 TRIPS

Arizona Adventure expanding section

Arizona Adventure

Looking for a challenge? Interested in some serious backpacking? Southern Arizona offers some of the most remote and gorgeous backpacking trails in the country. On this expedition we’ll hike 4 full days on the Arizona Trail spending our third day celebrating New Year’s Eve. This trail offers several scenic vistas along with famous saguaro cacti. Additionally, we will spend a day exploring Organ Mountains- Desert Peaks National Monument and another day exploring White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. This is a trip of a lifetime and one that you’ll remember forever!

Dates: Thursday December 27th - Saturday, January 5th

Location: Arizona Trail, AZ, Organ Mountains- Desert Peaks National Monument and White Sands National Monument, NM. 

Price:  $500 on or before December 1st. $525 after December 1st.

Price Includes: 
Transportation, meals while camping, and all group equipment.

Registration
Registration for all trips and clinics are based on a first come first served basis. A non-refundable $150.00 deposit is required for all Winter Break Trips.  Register at the Outdoor Connection or at https://recsports.uwlax.edu.

Cash, checks, Visa, Master-Card, and Discover Card

Refunds
The Outdoor Connection incurs, in advance, certain expenses related to each trip, such as contracted guides, facility reservations and specialized equipment purchases or rental. ** A full refund will be given if the OC has to cancel the trip for any reason. Cancellation prior to 15 business days before the trip departs will result in a forfeit of 50% of the deposit. Cancellation prior to 10 business days results in forfeit of the full trip registration fee.

Eligibility
UW-L students always have priority, however, when possible faculty/staff and the general public are eligible. Registration fees are higher for non-students.  All participants must also meet the essential eligibility requirements listed on the back of this flyer.

Activity Rating
This trip is considered very strenuous and is the most physically challenging trip the OC will offer this winter break.  Participants must be in top physical condition to sign up for this trip.

 

SoFlo’ Florida expanding section

SoFlo’ Florida

Experience the adventure of a lifetime as we make our way down to the southern tip of Florida where we will spend 3 days canoeing in the Everglades. We will then head to the Florida Keys where we will visit a turtle hospital, snorkel in a coral reef, see wildlife, hang out on the beach and swim.

Location: Everglades National Park and Florida Keys, FL 

Price: $725 on or before December 1st.  & $750 after December 1st.

Price Includes:
Transportation, meals while camping, snorkeling excursion, admittance to turtle hospital and all group equipment.

This trip is considered to be mildly strenuous. There will be a couple longer days of paddling followed by relaxing time spent snorkeling, swimming and sightseeing.

Rocks That ARE Red expanding section

Red Rock Canyon Exploration

Prepare for the adventure of a lifetime by traveling to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada! The first two days we will spend climbing, where you will have the opportunity to learn different climbing techniques and belay skills. Next, we will pick up our rental bikes and spend two days shredding the trails. To conclude our trip, we will spend two more days climbing in different locations within Red Rock Canyon. So, grab your gear and rock on!

The Grande Adventure expanding section

The Grande Adventure

Head south with the Outdoor Connection, as we explore the remote wilderness of Big Bend National Park in Texas. We will hike for 1 full day in Big Bend National Park then paddle down the famous Rio Grande River for 4 full days and explore the beautiful canyons. 

To start, we’ll lace up our hiking boots and explore some of the challenging, yet stunning hikes Big Bend has to offer. After hiking, we’ll get on the river where we will explore the remote landscape, and forge new friendships. So, pack your dry bags and grab your paddles for this expedition that is guaranteed to be as awesome as you are!

Location: Rio Grande River and Big Bend National Park, Texas
