Application process

A page within Residence Life

Step 1: Confirm your admission and enrollment at UWL

In order to live in the residence halls, you MUST be a full-time student at UWL. If you are unsure of your admission status, please check with the UWL Admissions Office. You will need to pay the $100 enrollment deposit. After 48 hours, you will be able to access the housing contract and application.

Step 2: Learn about the UWL residence halls

Please take a look at the residence hall information on our website to learn about the similarities and differences of our residence halls. Review the room rates.

Step 3: Complete your housing application

Follow these instructions to begin your housing contract and application:

  • Go to the housing portal and log in using your UWL username and password
  • Select "Housing Application" on the maroon navigation bar
  • Review and agree to the housing contract terms and conditions
  • Pay the $150 housing deposit
  • Review your application & submit

Contract cancellations prior to May 1, 2024 will receive a full refund of the $150 deposit. Cancellations made prior to May 1 do not need to go through a formal cancellation process.

After May 1, the entire $150 deposit will be forfeited. If a new incoming student decides to no longer attend UWL, their housing contract will be cancelled after notifying the Admissions Office.

This is a legally binding contract that cannot be cancelled without penalty after May 1, 2024 if you attend UW-La Crosse during the academic year 2024-25. Section 1.C of the housing contract notes the specific criteria for contract cancellation release after May 1.

Step 4: Update your application

You may update your application to change residence hall preferences and roommate preferences by returning to the housing portal.

This will not affect your original completed contract and application date.

Roommate selection for students who have completed the 2024-25 housing application will be available on the housing portal in January 2024. All students who have completed the 2024-25 housing application prior to this date will receive a reminder ahead of time about roommate selection opening.

Step 5: Room assignments
