Scholarship hurdles

You’re not alone in thinking that scholarship writing can be overwhelming. A common mistake students make is falling into the mindset that they will never win but that's not true!  Listen to your peers on this one and keep applying!

“I don’t generally let obstacles get in my way.  If I’m determined to do something, I’m going to do it either way.  Just putting myself out there, even if I don’t think I’m going to win, there’s still always that shot cause you never know if you’re going to win or not.” - Tori Blumenstein

“Some scholarships require a very high GPA or might say that juniors and seniors are favored in the selection process. If I feel that I would be a good fit for the other criteria, I apply anyways despite these obstacles.” - Sunita Nandihalli

I consider myself humble, so I don’t like talking myself up.  In the end you have to kind of put your best foot forward and let people see, so, that’d be the hardest part.” Taylor Blumenstein

“The biggest obstacle is time.  It takes time to apply for scholarships, but I never let that be a barrier for me because the reward that you get from them is worth it.  Take the time to do them.  It’s going to be worth it even if you have to sacrifice not hanging out with your friends for a couple of hours or something.  When you look back at it, it's going to be a good decision that you made.” Justin Block

"Do not get discouraged. Applying for scholarships is a process and rejection is a part of that process. Applying scholarships usually comes with losing more rather than winning more, but this shouldn’t make you give up. I have also received many rejection letters but you should not let this get you discouraged." - Emma Brosinski

“I think the hardest thing about applying for scholarships is the amount of time that it takes, because on top of your school work and what you’re doing right now and if you have a job, at the time it’s really hard to try to fit in scholarships.  So what I do is I take an hour of my day to dedicate that to scholarships.  I always overcome that obstacle.” - Marissa Cepress

“I would say I apply anyway, but the obstacles, I think, for me would be the scholarship you have to write something for.  Because there’s usually a limit on how much you can write so it's just narrowing all of your thoughts and presenting yourself in the best way…” Kendra Andreska

Sometimes my GPA isn’t high enough to get scholarships, so sometimes I’m a bit obsessed about that.” - Liuyu Bai

“For me it is pretty stressful applying for scholarships.  I tend to do everything last minute.  So I’m always searching the internet last minute and putting everything together.  It is a lot work, a lot of the same things over and over when it comes to entering your information.  But I guess I just kind of plan it out, and just focus and get it done when I have to.” -Emma Brosinski
