Student Employment Titles

Bluffs Setup Crew

The BSC completes a variety of set ups in based on customer requests.

Position Responsibilities

  • Vacuuming & cleaning of carpet and furniture
  • Lifting, moving, and setting of various sized tables, chairs and miscellaneous equipment
  • Attend bi-weekly crew meetings to schedule work assignments

Building Manager

The primary Centers staff person on duty in the Student Union during the hours of 4 pm to close, Monday – Friday; all hours of operation on Saturday and Sunday; and at other times as assigned. Students in this position are responsible for the security and safety of the building and its occupants.

Position Responsibilities

  • Open and close the building
  • Communicate and enforce policies in a consistent manner
  • Supervise the usage of The Student Union
  • Check to ensure that all setups are properly completed
  • Oversee setup and take down of the required audio-visual equipment
  • Assist Event Coordinators with major events
  • Appropriately work with cash handling procedures
  • Solve problematic situations as necessary
  • Strive for excellent customer service

COVE Graphics

Graphics is a fast paced, team oriented environment that provides campus organizations with publicity services. Through designing and printing posters, making buttons, and providing other various marketing services, employees will work with customers to better publicize their events to the campus. Employees must have a proficient knowledge of Photoshop and good communication skills to insure the requirements are met from design to completion stage. Graphics has a small staff, with each employee working about 6-10 hours a week.

Position Responsibilities

Provide graphic design assistance to accommodate publicity and promotional needs of recognized student organizations. This may include assistance with posters, brochures, signs, banners, photocopies, scanning, lamination.

Leadership & Involvement Center

The Leadership & Involvement Center coordinates leadership, involvement, and service programming both on and off campus, as well as promote the online MyOrgs and Ugetconnected tools. Some event examples include Involvement Fest, Make a Difference Day, and Blood Drives, among others. The Campus Food Pantry is also managed by the Leadership & Involvement Center. This staff also provides support for 200+ student organizations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Work with event planning, promotion, and facilitation
  • Provide basic office operations and serve as main point of contact at COVE desk
  • Have knowledge of the benefits of leadership, involvement, service and the opportunities available
  • Advise students regarding involvement opportunities and ways to better their student organizations
  • Participate in various presentations on campus

Custodial Assistant

The custodial crew performs general cleaning and event set-up duties in the Student Union and Whitney Centers.

Position Responsibilities

  • Vacuum carpet and entrance matting.
  • Set tables and chairs
  • Clean entrance door glass
  • Sweep/mop or machine scrub hard floors
  • Assist with snow removal

Event Support 

Event Support is the on-campus crew for campus events. We work with staging, lighting, and sound for a variety of campus events, but not limited to: lectures, concerts, comedians, talent shows, and dances. Event Support employees’ setup, operate, and take down equipment; along with assisting groups with event coordination and planning.

Information Center Assistant

Staff are the face of the Student Union. The primary responsibility is to welcome all who visit the Union and provide information about the campus. Staff members possess strong customer service and communication skills, a good understanding of UWL, the ability to problem solve, cash handling experience, friendly and outgoing personality, and the ability to work as a team.

  • Greet customers

  • Provide information about the Union and campus programs and events
  • Sell event ticket and bus passes

  • Solve problematic situations as necessary
  • Checking in and out equipment

Office Assistant-Administration & Reservations

In this combined position, individuals must have: a positive attitude with strong customer service orientation, strong computer, communication, and organization skills, ability to perform tasks with careful attention to detail and accuracy, the ability to work appropriately with cash handling procedures, strong spelling and grammar skills, ability and desire to learn office procedures and equipment, Microsoft office skills, and preferred math and accounting skills. This office assistant will work with members of the campus community to provide customer service and meet the needs of the administrative and activities staff. Basic knowledge of AV equipment is preferred, but not necessary.

Position Responsibilities

  • Greet all customers (students, faculty, staff, and community members) with a pleasant, positive attitude and desire to offer assistance to the best of your ability
  • Explain and apply campus policies & procedures
  • Compile financial reports and account details, prepare cash boxes, reconcile ticket sales revenue, process deposits
  • Prepare and maintain administrative records relative to unit responsibilities
  • Prepare contracts and riders for campus events
  • Prepare and distribute daily reports and schedules
  • Reserve audio visual equipment and know how to help customers if they do not understand the technology
  • Assist customers with making room/audio equipment reservations and determining their setup needs.
  • Become familiar with the technology used throughout the student union and be able to assist in the event that a problem arises  

Office Assistant - ID Card & Dining Plan 

Individuals in this position need positive people skills; knowledge of office procedures and equipment; basic computer skills; strong organization skills; the ability to perform tasks with careful attention to detail and accuracy; the ability to work appropriately with cash handling procedures; strong spelling and grammar skills; and math/accounting skills. The office assistant in this area will work with the campus community taking ID pictures, and signing individuals up for dining plans and Campus Cash.

Position Responsibilities

  • Take photos for student, faculty, and staff IDs.
  • Sell and reconcile campus cash.
  • Acquire knowledge of the meal plan requirements, sign students up, and open accounts.
  • Assist with a variety of special projects.
  • Prepare and verify various reports.
  • Work with vending refunds
  • Verify billing is correct
  • Strong customer service skills

Pride Center, LGBTQQA Peer Educator

The Pride Center is devoted to serving UW-La Crosse students, faculty, staff, and members of the community that identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer+ (LGBTQ+). The Center provides resources and educational programs on LGBTQ+ issues, homophobia/transphobia/biphobia, and heterosexism. Additionally, the Pride Center offers a safe place for the LGBTQ+ community. We provide Ally Workshops, LGBTQ+ Panels, Queer Cinema, and much more for the UWL community.

Position Responsibilities

  • Present information on LGBTQ+ issues through programs, panels and Ally trainings
  • Provide support, assistance and referrals to all who approach the center
  • Maintain a safe space in the Pride Center
  • Office duties which include, but are not limited to creating and hanging fliers, making bulletin boards, filing, emailing and managing the library
