Call for Recommendations

The UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation Governance Committee is now accepting recommendations for Directors to begin serving in the 2026-27 fiscal year. 

Who may submit recommendations?  Current Directors and members of the University community (including staff, alumni, friends, and emeritus directors) may submit a recommendation. Additionally, an individual may express self-interest in serving on the Board or a committee.

Should I communicate with the potential nominee during this process? Yes! You should have a conversation with the individual prior to submitting a recommendation. That conversation should include a discussion of the following:

• Expectations, responsibilities, and benefits of serving as a Director or Citizen Member (please share the attached Board and/or Citizen Member Recruitment documents with them).
• Assurance that conversations and recommendations are held in confidence by the Foundation.
• Foundation needs vary from year to year; thus, a recommendation does not guarantee an individual’s election to the Board or appointment to a committee for the ensuing year.
• If the individual is not selected in the current year, the Foundation would like to keep their name in the pool of potential Directors or Citizen Members for future consideration.

How to make a recommendation:

• Complete the Recommendation Form.
• If you wish to submit a resume in addition to the recommendation form, please email Maegan Ames, Executive Assistant to the Foundation President (mames@uwlax.edu).  
• Recommendation period for Directors for the next fiscal year closes January 31, 2026. 

Process:  The Governance Committee will review recommendations and formally nominate a slate of Director candidates to be presented to the full Board for election at the annual board meeting in May. Newly elected Directors will undergo training in June, and their terms of service will begin July 1.

Citizen Members: Recommending individuals to serve as Citizen Members of Foundation committees, specifically the Audit, Finance and Investment, Philanthropy and Community Engagement committees is also welcomed.  Citizen Members of committees are those who are not members of the Board. Consideration of recommendations for Citizen Members will usually occur at the time committee assignments are being made in May/June (but can occur at any time), and their service will begin with training before the first committee meetings of the new fiscal year.
